Cassandra Nordell is a Canadian entrepreneur, designer, and a columnist. She is a driving force behind three thriving businesses in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.

In 2016 Cassandra was named one of the TOP FEMALE Entrepreneurs in Canada on the W100 list, ranked by Profit and Canadian Business Magazine as well named a PROFIT 500 CEO for leading the 4th fastest growing company in Canada in consumer services and construction.

Cassandra’s leadership also steered William Standen Co. into a prestigious position amongst Canada’s top new-growth companies: the 48th slot on the 2013 PROFIT HOT 50 ranking. Just 11% of the companies who were recognized in 2013 had female CEOs, and Cassandra is proud to be part of this small percentage. She was also named one of the NKBA’s “30 Under 30” exceptional young professionals in the kitchen and bath industry and asked to participate at the 2014 Kitchen & Bath Industry show in Las Vegas. Locally, Cassandra has been honoured with business leadership and entrepreneurial awards.

Cassandra is a firm believer that good design can change the way people live. Her work has been featured by a number of magazines and publications, both international and domestic.

Her path to entrepreneurial success began at an early age, as she developed a strong work ethic by helping out at her parents’ excavating company in Sarnia. From cleaning the office to controlling traffic around job sites, Cassandra was always keen to take on new tasks and responsibilities. She worked additional jobs while attending high school and college, noting that it wasn’t always a smooth road, but her determination, love of learning and hunger for growth drove her to persevere.

Ingrained in her is the belief that nothing is impossible, and she seeks to cultivate this attitude in others, sharing her story with aspiring professionals. As a part-time professor at Lambton College, she shares her industry expertise by teaching classes for the School to College to Work Initiative as well as the Interior Decorating program.

She completed her own education at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, where she attained an advanced diploma in Interior Design. Upon graduating, she began her career at an award-winning design firm in Toronto, where she honed her skills and gained experience she knew would be invaluable to her entrepreneurial dream.

Cassandra returned to Sarnia in 2006, with a plan to bring a superior level of service, innovation and product to the local design and construction sector. Nordell Design/Build was open for business that same year. In a short span, she’d gone from having a prominent design job at a Toronto firm to working at the local mall while pouring energy into getting Nordell Design/Build off the ground.

The risk paid off, and within the first year, the company’s sales were four times the amount of the initial business loan. Spurred by their success, in 2010, she and her partner Patrick launched their second business. William Standen Co. was introduced to the marketplace as a full-service kitchen and bath design, turnkey renovation and custom cabinetry firm. Her passion, excitement and  unique design talent helped to instil a sense of confidence in the company’s earliest clients.

Working with Cassandra, one overriding motive is clear: she is driven to help others. Whether it’s designing a space to improve the quality of an individual’s life or donating her time and skill to any number of charitable organizations, Cassandra is passionate about making a difference.

Going forward, she’ll continue to search for ways to improve her companies and strengthen her own knowledge base and skill-set, while remaining true to her principles and creative talent.
